Yes. Most of our new clients say something like this. They are concerned about not being fit enough to start or feeling uncomfortable here. We assure them that we will design each session according to their needs and that beginners are welcome here. We will teach you everything you need to know and go at a pace that is right for you. We will take notes during your session and communicate with you. If anything doesn’t feel right to your body, it can be changed.
Wear something that you can move in. We suggest something that stretches that does not have zippers, snaps or belts. Be comfortable and wear layers in case you are too warm or cold. Pants and shorts that are closer fitting work best.
Yes, for most clients with back pain Pilates is very beneficial. We ask that some clients check in with their physician for an “okay to exercise” before starting their sessions. We want to be sure you are safe when exercising. We have worked with many clients having chronic muscular back pain, neck pain, headaches, spasms and trigger points with positive results. We’ve worked with clients who have osteoporosis, herniations, scoliosis, postural alignment issues and more. We alter each session according to individual needs.
It is up to you. Some clients enjoy the variety of different instructors while others prefer to have one primary instructor. We recognize each client learns a bit differently and each instructor has their own style. Trying a lesson with different instructors can help you find the teaching method that feels right for you. Please read our instructor biographies to learn more about them.
This varies depending on your lifestyle, other activities and goals. Most clients are here twice a week. Many do one private session and one group session per week. Some are very active outside their Pilates sessions and others use Pilates as their primary exercise form. Whatever your situation, we will be able to accommodate you. If you are only able to be here once a week, we are happy to jot down a few things for you to do at home between sessions. If you want to be with us more often, we will find a schedule that you enjoy.
Yes. We ask that you have an authorization to exercise from your doctor prior to starting Pilates if you are pregnant. We have substantial experience here at Pilates Northwest with pregnancy and Pilates. Many of us here have done Pilates throughout our own pregnancies and when we were post partum. Our instructors have had additional training on pregnancy and Pilates and follow safe guidelines. They will take detailed notes, check in with you often and create a session for you based on how you are feeling day to day. We will alter your sessions based on your trimester, pregnancy guidelines and how you are feeling. For this reason, we recommend private sessions rather than group sessions for the beginner Pilates client who is pregnant.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, we sanitize equipment, props, and high-touch surfaces, maintain distancing of equipment, and require instructors and clients to be vaccinated and masked.
